We figured the weather was perfect for a trip to Table Mountain, but the cable car didn't run because of strong winds and bad visibility?!? I figure some cable car operator must have slept in that morning, 'cause there was not the slightest wind (not at the bottom anyway) and had it not been for the curvature of our globe, I'm sure I could have seen the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro.
We started to hike up the mountain but gave up about halfways. We had brought enough water, but no food and people coming down told us that the restaurant at the top was closed. By the time we got back to the bottom the cable cars had started running ... ce' la vie.
It is quite a fascinating view from the top of Table Mountain. You can see all of Cape Town and its sorroundings.
All of a sudden the 'cloth' came in and covered the table. It seemed like the clouds came out of nowhere. The combination of wind (yes, there indeed was wind ;-) and humidity made it quite cold and we had of course not brought enough clothes.
Back at the bottom we went to the "Den Anker" pub at "The Waterfront", another tourist-trap in Cape Town, and had a couple of beers (smallest beer glass I have ever seen). Later Gaby, a local girl we had met a month earlier at the Chobe Safari Lodge in Botswana, joined us for dinner. Afterwards she invited us for a coffee at here place in Camps Bay - a hip place on the coast west of Cape Town.
