Monday was supposed to be "validation day".

In order to get allowed to fly a south african registred plane, foreign licens holders are required to have their license validated. CC is not an instructor which ment I had to do the validation with somebody else. This part wasn't as well organised as one could have hoped for. CC spent practically all day, unfortunately without luck, trying to get a hold of an instructor that could do the validation with me.

Except for the flight from the Bush Pilots Airbase to Nelspruit and back there was no air-time to be logged that day.

Pyro's place

We gave the car back, which was a bit of an adventure, because Imperial, the rental company, had expected us to give it back at their branch in Krüger International Airport - but the contract clearly stated "Nelspruit Airport" (small regional airport with no car rentals whatsoever), so they had to come and pick up the car themselves. They were so relaxed about it, we didn't even have to use any of our newly learnt negotiation techniques (see October 3rd :-).

Preparing for the validation

Bush Airs Cessna 182, which we were going to do the trip with, sometimes ran a bit rough on the left magneto. The mechanics at Nelspruit, who recently had done the 100-hourly, diagnosed it to be a defective part in the magneto itself. It would have to be ordered from Johannesburg. Express delivery would have taken about 24 hours. Since we had planned to go to the CAA office in Joburg ourselves anyway (in order to get the validation processed as quick as possible, once I had done the examns on Tuesday) CC decided to get the defective part himself in Johannesburg.

We got some shopping done in Nelspruit. Amongst other delicacies CC bought a klipfish which was grilled that evening back at the Bush Pilots Airbase - marvelous!
