At a winery

Wine tasting
Gaby, her sister Laryssa and their friends Christina and Gary had arranged to go to the world-famous vinyards around Cape Town to buy some wine. Its actually not so much about the winebying itself, I think, it's more about taking a day of and relax. Something I understand "Cape-Townians" have to do once-in-a-while - comparable maybe to a trip to the Zoo for us.

Linda and I were invited to join them, which we of course happily accepted.

First we visited a place where both cheese and wine was produced and sold - pretty good combination if you ask me, but we didn't stay to tast the wine - instead we continued to another, quite interesting place. For a couple of bucks one could select six 'pours' out of a list of many different wines.

Next we stopped at Boschendal where we 'strained' our taste buds again and set a perfect end to the morning with an excellent lunch.

The south african rugby team was playing Wales that day so Gaby and her friends of course wanted to see the game. We found the perfect spot for it - Spiers, a place where they not only had a bar that was showing the match on their TV, but where they also had cheetas! Linda and I, who are not that much into Rugby, to be honest, spent time with those cheetas and actually got inside the cage to pet them, while the others cheered up their team.

There was also time for us to check out the adjoining "bird recovery" - a place where birds that have come into any kind of trouble (often abandoned pets for instance) are spoonfeed in order to recover such that they can be released into the open again later. Funny looking owls, hawks, huge eagles, and all kinds of interesting feathered things could be found here. One was even allowed to have them sitting on ones arm and pet them.

South Africa did win the game, but apparently the result was not 'good enough' - the mood on the way back into Cape Town seemed a bit low anyhow, but maybe that was because this nice day had come to an end ;-).
