The 10 am meeting with Ria and Humberto had to be postponed. Lindas eyes were treated with cold wet paper towels. After a couple of hours the swelling had diminished enough for us to go ahead with the original plan for the day, which was driving out to Cape of Good Hope together with our friends. Lindas condition improved throughout the day - by the time it was evening the eyes weren't swollen anymore.
First stop was at Boulders Beach (Cape Peninsula NP) to see the famous penguine colony by the beach. These little buggers are really cute and you can get quite close to them. We took loads of pictures ... just like the american we met a little later. When we told him that he could get much better and close up pictures around the corner where you can sit amongst the penguins instead of just watching them at a distance from a fenced "boardwalk" he replied "I dont need to, I have a 600mm zoom". What a jerk!
Lunch was consumed in a restaurant near the end of the peninsula. Then we walked out to Cape Point where the lighthouse is located. We didn't spot any whales or similar interesting animals - still the view was very nice from up here. Ria, being pregnant, didn't feel like walking all the way out to the actual Cape of Good Hope , the south- western most point of South Africa, so she took the car while we walked - good for us, that way we didn't have to hike the same way back again :-).
On the way to the Cape we had driven along the eastern side of the peninsula. Now, on the way back we took down, or rather up, the western side. Perfect timing! We cought the so-called "Chapman Route" in the best light just before sunset. I can only recommend to do the same trip out of Cape Town. The excellent seafood dinner at the Mariners Wharf in Hout Bay made the evening perfect.
